Glückliche Haut, leidende Haut
“Glückliche Haut, leidende Haut“ / “ Fortunate skin, suffering skin “
The fascination for the bachelor thesis “fortunate skin, suffering skin“ is a result of my interest and curiosity in the naked human body. An active state of being which is native and something deeply human.
Looking at a nude body creates various emotions, it can make us feel calm or disturbed , it can make us feel sad or we could even be discusted by it. Sometimes we experience all these emotions at the same time.
But it can also show that we are not so different from eachother and life is universal because we are all born naked, grow older and die at the end.
The body memorises our experiences, our emotions and we can see the result on the skin.
Paul Valèry (1871-1945) wrote: “The deepest part of a person is the skin.“
It is the interest in the human skin and the body with its engraved experiences which I utilise as an object and narrativ but also as means to tell my own story about the persons in the series.
“Fortunate skin, suffering skin“ is a difficult series which combines the body as a narrative with aspects of inner feelings as well as my personal interpretation of the topic.
